MDL Geek Out Courses!

Let’s geek out on the hip in motion on Saturday, December 30th!

From running to dancing, climbing to skiing, we use our hips every single day. Yet many of us take these amazing joints for granted. Let’s take what we learned in the first two Geek Out! lecture courses and apply it in motion.

Taught by studio owner Bre Dumke Helfrich, MS Health & Exercise Science, Certified GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® Trainer, & Certified Comprehensive Pilates Teacher

If you're a movement professional wanting to go beyond counting reps, choreography and basic anatomy, this is for you. Similarly, if you're a clinician wanting to fully join team exercise and learn more about how to merge the science with the applied, this is for you. And if you're a movement geek wanting to connect with and join forces with other movement geeks, this is for you.

ABOUT:

Let’s take what we learned in the first two Geek Out! series, and apply it. This course will be all movement. we’ll start by exploring our own hip anatomy to then working through common weaknesses and imbalances that tend to cause pain.

Curious about what will be covered? Here's a quick road map:

Mat & Small Prop Work

  • Hip movement 101 - let's review the motions of the hip
  • Personal Anatomy - range of motion can vary person to person based on strength and boney structures. Let's focus on understanding our own personal anatomy.
  • Key hip exercises - many of us struggle with hip flexor tightness, low back pain and butt pain. Let's work on the key ways we can aleviate such issues.

Equipment Work

  • We will utilize the Pilates Trapeze Table and GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower to take te mat work further. Oftentimes load is critical for building stregnth training as well as connecting our brains lesser understood areas. How can we facilitate engagement of that which is weaker or harder to recruit?

Note: If you don't have access to equipment, I still encourage you to join. A replay will be available but my goal is to inspire you to take this work and creatively make it your own.

About Bre:

Bre Dumke Helfrich is the founder of Movement Design Lab in Salt Lake City, UT. After surviving a mountaineering accident in Southern Colorado that left her with numerous injuries, she left the world of academia on a mission to heal. It is from her own experience rehabbing with both the Pilates and the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® that both systems blended perfectly with her geeky science mind. She is passionate about adapting both systems to fit the needs of her clients. Clients first - choreography second. Bre has her MS in Health and Exercise Science, is a certified comprehensive Pilates Teacher and a Certified GYROTONIC® Teacher and a GYROKINESIS® Apprentice. She is also currently back in school pursuing her PhD in Kinesiology specializing in Cognitive & Motor Neuroscience. To say she is a movement geek is a bit of an understatement.

Outside of the studio, Bre loves all things mountains. From trail running to backcountry skiing, from climbing to simply going on a hike, Bre feels most at home in the high alpine. She feels lucky to call Salt Lake City home with her husband and baby boy.
